Marine Corps Logistics Base (MCLB) Albany is in an area known as Plantation Trace in Albany, Georgia. The Logistics Base is roughly three hours south of Atlanta and 90 minutes north of Tallahassee, Florida; Georgia cities Macon, Columbus, and Valdosta are about one hour from the base. The City of Albany has a population close to 80 thousand citizens.

The installation has a little over 400 military and just under 3,000 civilian employees and while the area isn’t known to be a “military town” there are military retiree communities (approximately 10 thousand or so) in the local area.

Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany Mission

MCLB Albany provides global logistics and supply chain / distribution management via Marine Corps Logistics Command (the base’s largest tenant command) and also features depot level maintenance management through Marine Depot Maintenance Command and Production Plant Albany.

MCLB is also the site of the Chemical, Biological Defense Enterprise Fielding & Surveillance Directorate.

MCLB Albany is one of six commands under Marine Corps Installations East, which has its’ headquarters at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany History

Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany was commissioned in 1952 as the Marine Corps Depot of Supplies and began supply support for Marines east of the Rocky Mountains and in the Atlantic area in 1954. 13 years later Storage Activity and Depot Maintenance Activity were added to the mission.

In 2005, a major restructuring of Marine Corps commands saw MCLB Albany divided into a base command, becoming one of seven regional installations reporting to Marine Corps Installations East.
